I write to understand why
There is something so potent
A zygote of liberation
In our present queer world
We have such shitty options
Our sexuality stigmatized
We create an architecture of boxes
Top or bottom
Masc or femme
We celebrate diversity
Our acronym expanding endlessly
As if a litany of letters creates coherent community
This illusion of inclusivity so feeble
With vectors of oppression lacerating community
We proclaim our pride
But our spaces can be so catty
Riven by cliques and hierarchy
We proclaim pride
But deny our shame
Shame that our bodies are imperfect
Shame that our sexual culture and can be so vacuous
This image inspires me
You offer a taste of unrealized possibility
This pulsating emotional connection
This vulnerability transformational
And unmistakably masculine
The work of liberation is a multiverse
We organize and mobilize
But we must also create the new internally
Every connection a fractal of transformation
Interwoven like a forest’s subterranean roots
We must free queer identity
Unconstrained by artificial binaries
Liberating culture from a dictatorship of frivolity
Your image offers hope
You awaken a monster queer phoenix
Arising godlike
Flying free towards the sun
Rising from the embers of superficiality in our culture
