I learned the rules
When I was young
Boys don’t cry

You can cry if you break a bone
But you never cry over feelings

I’ve grown and evolved
But I am still scarred by conditioning
A dear friend just passed
And I have yet to cry

Patterns are programming
But they are not fate
We can manifest new archetypes
Realizing vulnerability and liberation

We break down walls
The apartheid walls of emotional suppression
We say ‘I love you’ among friends
Acknowledging underlying emotions
Insecurity and shame
Emotional terror and paralysis

Too often we are fatalistic
Even in spaces of transformation
We recount what men don’t do
We name emotions often held inside

But we can listen to our future
Imagining that feeling of pure connection
Visualizing transformed masculinity
Shattering walls rooted in sexuality
Transcending segmentation by race or nation

What if we manifested that future?
Each of us a zygote of liberation
Each of us a fulcrum of emotional honesty

Language is deeply rooted power
What if we can transfigure our future?
What if we stopped emphasizing our limitations?
What if we embodied this nascent vision?

This is our emotional intifada
A shaking off of oppressive shackles
Our internalized rebellion
This insurgency of vulnerability

The work of revolution is humble
We plow fields and sow seeds
Feeding the soil with potent emotional water
Manifesting radical love
Embodying our future with intention

This is our project
This work of transcendent masculinity
We build our future with care
One vulnerable relationship at a time

I imagine this insurgency of vulnerability
Our energetic alchemy
Our emotional evolution

We transcend toxicity
Realizing destiny
Crafting sacred circles of liberation
